MARYSONG

Original painting "Mary" by Cecilia Brendel used with permission.

She sang to Joseph an angelsong

Of promise and love and the child to be born

Her spirit filled song on a dark desert morn.

When the world awoke to creation's sigh  In the light of a crib as a star twinkled high

Mary began her first lullaby.

She tickled his toes and wiped his tears

Told him stories and rocked away fears

She wiped his nose and cuddled him near.

Her husband and child heard her songs

To the sound of a hammer, she sang along

Her soft sweet voice beginning at dawn.

She sang to her boy while holding his hands

And raised him up to be the man

To enter the role of prophesy's plan.

The Spirit sang always in her heart

Dwelling in her from the very start

Residing in promise never to part.

In a time when many hearts became hardened  Her song was heard near a desert garden

Surrender song of praise and pardon.

Then came a comforting song on a hill

A song of pain and sorrow... but still

A song of peace in the Father's Will.

To the sounds of a hammer, she once again sang

Her Calvary song giving love to the blame

Her heart had been pierced, but her faith had remained.

A song of suffering she sang at the tomb

For the love of her life, the love of her womb

The lovesong to which her soul had succumbed.

Alleluia!  Rejoice!  Her new song became!

With resurrection the prophecy named

The song of her Son forever proclaimed.

She sang again of the angelsong  But now she sang on a bright desert morn

Of love and promise and hope that was born.
