Chris Montesano was a core member of Colorado Springs Faith and Light Group for over 15 years. Chris shared a home with his brother Frank that borders Pike National Forest. He walked a mile roundtrip to the mailbox every day to help stay fit. |
When Chris was not feeding the birds, recycling aluminum, making puzzles, gardening, fishing, shoveling snow in the winter time, making rosary beads for the missions or meeting with his F&L group he did volunteer work.

There was a time when
Chris Montesano participated in the very first
Special Olympics attended by
Kennedy Family members and hosted by the
Joseph
P. Kennedy Jr. Foundation. He was on the team from
St. Coletta's School in
Hanover, Massachusetts and won first-place medals for running. It was at a
time when Cardinal Cushing of Boston traveled with Sister Shawn, Director of
the school, and several of the children to Lourdes in France. After Cardinal
Cushing died, the funeral procession went to the school and the Cardinal was buried. He had been a true
friend of those with mental retardation. Chris attended the services that
day. The school was then renamed
Cardinal Cushing School. Chris continued to
participate and run in those early Special Olympics as long as he resided at the
school. He is still proud of those Special Olympics and of the medals he
received.
Chris Montesano's story is in print!

Help feed the birds in memory of Chris!
Chris' brothers, nephews & nieces will continue this tradition in memory of Chris. A 50 lb. bag of sunflower seeds is about 15.00 in Florissant, CO!
Many of Chris' feathered friends have been visiting his bird feeders every day for 5 years now! You can use these links to see some of Chris Montesano's wild birds and other backyard friends; Steller's Jay, Gray-Crowned Rosy-Finch, Abert's Squirrel, more of Chris' wild birds and backyard friends here.

In Memoriam
Born 11-23-58 Died 09-28-05

Frank, I will always remember the big grin he got
whenever I would show up at the house that he and you lived in. It seemed
like he always had a smile on his face, and a song in his heart!! I will miss
him dearly.
We just received the word of the peaceful death of Chris. He and the family
will be remembered by members of the Family of Friends Faith and Light in
Coffeyville, Ks
We miss his loving presence and ready smile.
Bless You for being Chris's best friend all these years Frank. We are glad He
had that certain childlike kindness, you are your Brothers keeper, so keep His
Love alive.
...he went peacefully and that is a blessing
for all concerned. He was very well loved and well taken care of and that is
such an awesome thing!
I hope we can all face our time when it comes
as peacefully and painlessly as Rose's brother Chris did. That was truly a
blessing for him, probably because he was such a special person.
Chris was a great guy with a good heart.
Whenever our paths crossed, he was always glad to see me and had a big smile.
Chris always had the faith and wonder of a child, and now he can rest in the arms of God.
When I think about the love that Chris had for
all of nature, I can only
believe that now he is one with the very Creator of all that he loved, and so
much a part of it all that there is no room for anything that would keep him
from fully living in the completeness of that creation with all of those special
creatures that he loved so much.
..he had a prosperous full life with many friends and peoples lives he touched...
All that ailed him and gave him pain is gone now and his soul is free to fly with his friends the birds...
What a full life he led! I loved seeing the
jigsaw puzzle at his memorial service. I'm a puzzle worker, too....I'll think of
Chris every time I work a new one!
I do think we celebrated well Chris' life at
Monday's Wake Service and Tuesday's funeral Mass. And what a beautiful crowd of
folks who love Chris all coming together. You all picked the right songs and
readings and prayers. May Jesus continue to lift you and each of the family in
comfort and care.
Did you all realize that the order of nuns at Cardinal Cushing School was The Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi? Chris had a closer connection with this saint than we knew of, being taught by those nuns from the start!

For You
This is a sad mourning,
God grant us a gift;
Christopher's spirit is soaring,
And our lives could use a lift.
Oh one day, yet another,
This family these friends will be calling;
To seek to where Chris's spirit strayed,
To Him our Love is longing.
We must not deny that miracles,
May come true tomorrow;
We know life can be practical,
Without greed, hate and sorrow.
And these sad times can make us bitter,
At our bad times found in fate;
Just know that nowhere was Chris's love better,
For his peace in heart now great.
So as a bell, may always ring,
Pain in thought of Chris we may feel;
Just let the spirit inside you sing,
Of how our Love, will always be real.
We forever feel Love, for someone we are not with.
Thanks Peggy and Jeffrey
